Highly Recommended New Music

Wolf Parade // Apologies to the Queen Mary

Just came out last tuesday and holy shit is it good. Probably the best album of 2005.

Another one to check out is Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Also a solid album, top ten '05 for sure. Although it's very hard to find, it may even be sold out right now.

And don't forget about Dangerdoom next tuesday....

Your wish is my command....

Wolf Parade // Apologies to the Queen Mary
Highly anticipated debut release from a quartet Montreal boys. Produced by Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock and released on Sub Pop Records. Brock helped this band get their record deal and has been instrumental in the hype machine behind them, but for once a band lives up to and even surpasses expectations. They spent some time opening for Modest Mouse and Arcade Fire over the last year. Which is fitting because their sound is most easily described as a mix of the two bands. Although the vocals at times sound (just a little bit) like Beck and Interpol. The album isn't an experiment or really anything new, it's just great energy, great instrumentation, great song writing and an overall fun listen.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah // S/T
CYHSY self produced and released their self titled debut this summer. Selling copies only through their Brooklyn apartment and insound.com they've already sold over 25,000 copies and have had to repress discs as they can't keep up with the demand. The first thing anyone will mention when describing their sound is David Byrne (Talking Heads). The singer at times sounds exactly as Byrne did in the 80s at others his croon is wilder and edgier. The songs range from the bizarre to sing-along pop. In fact the album seems to get more listener friendly as the tracks progress until your bobbing your head and all of sudden the album stops abruptly. Hands down the best album from a band with the worst names.

Dangerdoom // The Mouse and The Mask
Haven't heard this album yet, I've just been salivating over it's release for months. Dangermouse and MF Doom team up with Adult Swim and Epitaph records. Worlds are colliding... I'm lovin it.

Super Furry Animals // Love Kraft
I didn't mention this before, but I will now, since I'm listening to it as I type. SFA has been one of my favorite bands for years, Love Kraft is their 7th full length album and quite possibly the best yet. These Welshman love to make noise and incorporate odd little recordings into their songs (several years back they had Paul Mccartney come into the studio to chew celery). Kraft is no exception as layers of sounds can be investigated during repeat listens, but the first time through you'll smile, bob your head, tap your feet and start singing along.

Yeah, the new Blackalicious is really good. Gift of Gab is incredible and the track with Lyrics Born is tight. Although I'd say it's not quite as good as Blazing Arrow.
